Poetry Drafts

Man, I just logged in to the Instagram app and โ€ฆ sigh. Itโ€™s a different beast altogether

Maybe I should revert to papyrus, to wax on solid rock, or soot on dead skin, to the parchment of the slainโ€ฆ

In the Forest of Forever

I am all shadow, all bark
Roots deep in the marshland of claws
I am roadkill abandoned
Car chase disaster unrecoverable
I am the walking dead, one
Crash test dummy laughing
I am all shadow, all bark
In the forest of forever

The Magus

Did they ever find him
The boy who died
The boy who perished
Under a sheet of ice

One Friday night in a
Youthful January
In a year long ago
Sadly forgotten

Did they ever find him
The boy who died
The boy who perished
Under a sheet of ice

Footprints left in cold
Winter's night
Snow thick across the
Frozen town bay

Did they ever find him
The boy who died
The boy who perished
Under a sheet of ice

Footprints ending at a
Hole in the brittle ice
Someone staggered
Homewards drunk

Did they ever find him
The boy who died
The boy who perished
Under a sheet of ice

I should have been there
I should have known
Something of dread
Would befall him

Did they ever find him
The boy who died
The boy who perished
Under a sheet of ice

We were friends
We shared the music
Rocked every boat
Drank and grew together

Did they ever find him
The boy who died
The boy who perished
Under a sheet of ice

Did they ever find him

Magnus

The boy who died

a Magus

The boy who perished

returned some say

Under a sheet of ice

to a snow-covered hell

Muffled Walks in Solitude

I long for midwinter days
Muffled walks in solitude
Golden leaves uncovered โ€“
Ravens flying low

Days of trepidation in the
Land of shame and
Long shadows,
Sinful pleasures abound

I long for the ultimate caw
I carry the silver spoon
Awaiting her final call โ€“
Descending

Days of fey nagging
Eyes untouching
Paws pouncing

... Death

Abysmal Aging

Should I be worried
Should I be scared
As the memories of hugging
Eludes me

Should I be worried
Should I now scream
At the gates of the Goddess
Abandoning me

Should I be worried
Should I so swear
Never again to desire
A woman's hand

Should I be worried
Should I resent
Giving up the Nectar โ€“
Her divine touch

Should I be worried
Should I be scared
As the memories of you
Rapidly fades

The Poet’s Silence

There is no truth in poetic platitudes
No Goddess or Muse awaiting the poet's
Silence

The is no truth between the stars
No path set straight or
Unaligned

There is no truth beneath silver skies
No earthen land to enrich a broken
Mind

There is no truth in barren soil
No strong roots supporting leafy
Oaks

There is no truth in roots growing
No foundation for a mindful life
Propaganda

There is no truth in dusty books
No pattern of prosperity for its
Following

The is no truth in common tongue
No metaphors fit for the gathering
Crowd

There is no truth in poetic platitudes
No Goddess or Muse awaiting the poet's

Silence
