Author name: Hayden Veil

In an earlier incarnation, Hayden Veil enjoyed a successful career in software engineering, writing late-night poetry in pursuit of sanity. On 2 February 2020, the world of Hayden Veil changed: Ghosts became real and with its soul laid bare there was no turning back from the perpetual path of poetry.

You need to eat more poetry

uncooked, the virgin shape

sustenance for

wandering souls

hiding in shadows

cast by the moon

void the light

darkness crave

a sacrificing hand

each page

as the moon needs

crying eyes

to wax

the poet

setting words

alight

swinging randomly

swinging both ways

I pass

urgent urgent

stay away

I approach

bat in hand

swinging randomly

the thief

the rapist

the power seeking

stretched prone along

the trail I’m leaving

behind

little white lies

with the passing of seasons
more frequent than before
colour blindness creeping in
when judgement calls are done
well defined truths no longer
stands the moral highground
the scrutinising committee
bypassed time after time
the pockets filled with
cover ups, a tippex rarely
used, two cans of white
spray paint- gloss and matt
up my sleeves
but worst of all the filter
I keep inside my head
only letting out the truths
I am prepared to face

Prompted by a @maxmundan prompt: little white lies

when no one says stop

drinking to feel less

drinking to feel more

drinking to awaken

all those slumbering thoughts

numbness wanted

numbness be gone

madness reigns

in this intoxicated

soul

longing for you

I hope you realise
without me saying
explicitly stating
I LOVE YOU
that I do in fact
love you
my heart has no way
to say otherwise
my head carries doubt
at times questions
it’s own sanity
but it finally comes to terms
with that which is
you
and fall in line
with the rest of me
which is only
longing for
You

RJ45

When I woke up today
I found a cable next to me
white with a RJ45 at one end
the other hidden in mist
far far away

I was disconnected
feeling lost
the answers not there
questions looped
back to back

Whistling for no reason
what was going on
urgent
urgent
leave the house

gravity no longer affected me
bouncing down the hill
feeling free
the sky was blue
everywhere

approaching the river
I tumbled and fell
rolling down the
fields of green
bouncing still

the figure in the boat
tall and still
asked no questions
just nodded and
pointed towards the stern

with the mist thinning
approaching the other side
the gray became ever present
silence all
around

disembarking down a narrow trail
rarely used paths diverging
in all directions shade
randomly picking one out of twelve
a field spread before me

in the moonlight standing still
a towering figure looming
โ€œDid you think you could escape? My Eye is all seeing. It is time to reconnect, time for you to be freeโ€
He approached me
cable in hand
RJ45 the standard
