Uncle Bill
was always William
to certain people
mostly those
above a certain age
altho only once
did i hear some one
call to him as Billy
and then it was
in a drunken Dublin brogue
and held a certain distain
and you could see
the name
bounce off him
and scatter into the night
like so much paint
fading in the rain
from then on in
i always called him
Uncle William
OK, people, this has reached the good, for me reaches of 20 odd notes, now, OK, itโs by my low standards a pleasant little thing, but, does anyone know what it is i am referring to?
I am making no points of any kind, merely curious.
Well… I asked my friend Mr Google and probably spent 1h trying but didn’t come to any sensible conclusion… My thread of thoughts were Queen Victoria had an uncle William (IV) but he didn’t have a nickname of Bill so that failed…. But William III WAS called Bill in some circles, NI for example but you made reference to Dublin so that didn’t link 100% either… So in the end I gave up ๐
What is the correct answer?
(In my defence I claim a non-British lineage)
